![]() So then, did it deserve it?ĭirected by Robin Budd and Donovan Cook from a screenplay by Temple Mathews and Carter Crocker, Return to Never Land takes place roughly twenty five years after the first film, during the Bombing of London in World War II. ![]() ![]() Peter Pan: Return to Never Land was originally scheduled to come out the same way - a release straight to DVD and VHS - but for whatever reason it ultimately scored a theatrical run, a rarity among DisneyToon productions in this period. Sequels to movies like Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, The Lion King and The Hunchback of Notre Dame were all released in this manner during that period, produced by a secondary studio set up largely for that purpose by the name of DisneyToon Studios. The film was born out of an era in which Disney was investing heavily in relatively cheap direct-to-video sequels to their classic films, an investment which lasted roughly from the mid-1990s through the mid-2000s. There’s a 49 year gap between the original 1953 Peter Pan and it’s 2002 sequel Return to Never Land. ALL IMAGES IN THIS ARTICLE CREDITED TO: DISNEY/MOVIELENS
